In short

What is the occasion?
Revenue, headcount or fixed assets rise over several years. This is in the published annual accounts: for Germany in the Federal Gazette and the company register, for Austria in the Firmenbuch.
Why call now?
A firm that grows three years in a row has full order books, space problems and staff who need machines. It invests, even if it does not say so in a press release.
How does Kodo spot it?
Federal Gazette, Company register, Firmenbuch (Austria), Group recognised.

The timing.

Every occasion has a window. Before it, nothing is visible; after it, the order is placed. Kodo delivers while the window is open.

  1. 1 Financial year More orders, more people, more shifts.
  2. 2 Publication The accounts appear in the Federal Gazette, usually a year later.
  3. 3 Monday list Kodo reads the series, checks that the accounts belong to this company and puts it on the list with the trend.
  4. 4 Next step Expansion, acquisition or a new line follow the growth.

How Kodo spots the occasion.

Public sources only, each with a date. What Kodo cannot back up word for word is not on the list.

How we check every statement

  • 01Federal GazetteRevenue, headcount and personnel costs from the annual accounts, over up to five years.
  • 02Company registerThe official source for accounts. Kodo takes the accounts only when name, legal form and seat match the company.
  • 03Firmenbuch (Austria)For Austrian firms Kodo reads the filing in the Firmenbuch.
  • 04Group recognisedConsolidated accounts of the parent are marked as such, not attributed to the subsidiary.
  • 05Typical in machine buildingLong project lead times: growth shows first in headcount and inventories, then in revenue.

How it appears on the list.

One line of the Monday list: company, occasion, the quote from the source, the check, the contact person.

How your sales team opens.

The first sentence starts with the source, not with your product. Two examples for this occasion:

  • "You have grown by a third over the last three years. Where does production get tight first?"

  • "With this growth: are you planning the next line at the site or elsewhere?"

What people ask first.

How current are the figures?

Annual accounts appear with a delay, usually in the year after the financial year. That is why Kodo shows the series over several years and names source and financial year for every figure. Growth is a trend, not a daily event.

What about companies that publish no figures?

Small companies may file abridged accounts, group subsidiaries are often exempt. Kodo then states why figures are missing instead of entering an estimate.

What about group subsidiaries?

Consolidated accounts of the parent are marked and not attributed to the subsidiary. Subsidiaries with their own accounts are shown with their own figures.
