Kodo Leads vs. Creditreform:
Credit agency or finished list
Creditreform answers whether a company can pay. Kodo answers whether it needs your product, who decides there and why right now. Two questions, two designs, and rarely the same tool.
The short answer
You need to know whether a customer can pay
→ Creditreform
The credit report is Creditreform's core product, and Creditreform is Germany's largest credit agency. Anyone who needs to know the default risk before a contract, or wants to monitor their customer base continuously, is in the right place at a credit agency. Kodo does not have this function and deliberately does not build it.
You need addresses in large numbers across all sectors
→ Creditreform
Creditreform's marketing addresses can be selected by firmographics, that is by industry, size class and region, and for Germany, Austria and Switzerland at once. Anyone who needs ten thousand addresses for a broad campaign gets them there. Kodo deliberately builds small lists.
You sell to the shop floor, not to the accounts department
→ Kodo Leads
A credit report says how a company is doing financially. It does not say whether it mills on five axes, which materials it processes or whether an IATF 16949 hangs on the wall. Kodo reads exactly that from the website and the PDF brochures. One proof from our own dataset: of 1,001 deeply profiled companies, 119 state an ISO 9001 verbatim, on their website, not in a register.
You need the trigger with a date
→ Kodo Leads
Registers report what has happened: registration, capital change, insolvency. The reason a company might buy right now sits elsewhere: in the company news about the new hall, in the open production job, in the KfW grant, in the fresh certification. Kodo finds these signals, dates them and links the source.

When is which tool the right choice?
Both tools have their strengths, the question is what your sales team really needs.
When is Creditreform the right choice?
-
You need to know whether a customer can pay
The credit report is Creditreform's core product, and Creditreform is Germany's largest credit agency. Anyone who needs to know the default risk before a contract, or wants to monitor their customer base continuously, is in the right place at a credit agency. Kodo does not have this function and deliberately does not build it.

Creditreform's marketing addresses can be selected by firmographics, that is by industry, size class and region, and for Germany, Austria and Switzerland at once. Anyone who needs ten thousand addresses for a broad campaign gets them there. Kodo deliberately builds small lists.
-
You want a contact person nearby
Creditreform is organised as an association with around 130 local offices. Anyone who prefers to discuss a report with a person in their own region rather than operate a tool finds a model there that Kodo, as an online service from Lahr, does not replicate.
-
Your target market is broad, not manufacturing
Retail, services, construction, healthcare: Creditreform covers every sector. Kodo is tailored to machine building, plant engineering, machining, metal, plastics and automotive suppliers, and gets noticeably thinner outside these industries.

You sell to the shop floor, not to the accounts department

Kodo finds these signals, dates them and links the source.
-
You pay per researched company, not per report
At Kodo a researched company costs from 0.70 euros, as a single list without subscription and without an annual contract per seat. You get ten companies free so you can see the depth on real companies before you pay anything. The price includes the research, not just the access.
-
You want the evidence, not the score
A credit agency condenses everything into a single figure; for a credit decision that is the right approach. Sales needs the opposite: the link to the certificate page, the job posting, the annual accounts in the Bundesanzeiger, the news item about the new hall. Kodo shows no number rating; the evidence is the rating.
-
You want the decision-maker from the team page, not just the registered management
The register knows the managing directors and authorised officers. The production manager who evaluates your equipment is not in it. Kodo pulls decision-makers from the imprint and team page, with function and e-mail address, and cleanly separates what is proven from what is derived.
-
You start today, without onboarding
No implementation project, no membership, no annual licence per seat. You describe whom you are looking for and receive the researched list as CSV or straight into Salesforce.

The difference in one sentence
Creditreform is a credit agency: it answers what a company formally is and whether it can pay. Kodo Leads is a research service: it answers whether a manufacturing company needs your product, who decides there and why right now. At Creditreform you buy reports and addresses and translate them into sales work yourself. At Kodo you describe your target profile and receive the finished call list.
Both designs have their place, often within the same company. The choice comes down to one question: who at your company does the hours that lie between the address list and the first call?
What Creditreform does well, stated honestly
Creditreform, based in Neuss, is Germany's largest credit agency, organised as an association with around 130 local offices and active in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It can do three things Kodo cannot. First, creditworthiness: anyone who needs to know before a contract whether a customer can pay, or wants to monitor the default risk of their customer base continuously, is in the right place at a credit agency. Kodo does not have this function and deliberately does not build it. Second, breadth: the marketing addresses can be selected by firmographics, that is by industry, size class and region, across every sector. Third, proximity: a local office in your own region is a different model from an online service.
The master data is register-based and broad, too. Anyone who wants to know which legal form a company has, who is registered as managing director and what the last annual accounts looked like gets a solid answer here.
Where a credit agency structurally ends
The limit lies not in Creditreform's diligence but in the design. A credit agency reads registers and condenses them into a figure. For a credit decision that is exactly right. For industrial sales it is too little, because the criteria used to qualify there appear in no register.
An example that can be quantified. For the market overviews on this website we captured 2,276 manufacturing and trade businesses and deeply profiled 1,001 of them, that is, we machine-read their websites, brochures, imprints and register data. Result: 119 of these companies state an ISO 9001 verbatim, 15 an ISO 14001, 5 an IATF 16949, on their website, not in a register. The same applies to the machine park, the manufacturing processes, the materials and the industries served. A report that comes from the register cannot contain these traits, because its source does not know them.
And it applies to the trigger. A register reports what has formally happened: registration, capital change, change of management. Why a company might buy right now sits elsewhere: in the company news about the new hall, in the open production job, in the KfW grant, in the fresh certification. No credit agency reads these sources, because they are not its business. What we mean by a buying signal is explained in the glossary on buyer signals.
What Kodo makes of this
Kodo starts from the company's website and adds the official sources a credit agency uses as well. We read machine park, processes, materials and certificates from the website and PDF brochures, pull decision-makers from the imprint and team page, with role and e-mail address, add financials from the Unternehmensregister and Bundesanzeiger with year and source, and look for dated buying signals. Behind every statement is a link to where it was found. We show no number rating; the evidence is the rating.
The result is not a database you filter and not a report you interpret, but a list you call. It arrives as CSV or straight into Salesforce, without onboarding and without an annual contract per seat.
The honest calculation
Per address, Kodo is more expensive than a plain address selection. That is not a weakness but a consequence of the design: for every company we read the website, brochures, imprint, job postings, registers and news. So the comparison is not worth making per address, but per meeting.
The calculation you can do yourself: how many hours does your team need to turn an address selection into a qualified call list, that is, to read websites, look for certificates, find the production manager and phrase the opener? Multiplied by your hourly rate. If that is above the price of the list, the question is answered. If it is below, for instance because you only need creditworthiness and an address anyway, stay with Creditreform, and that sentence is here on purpose. You get ten researched companies from us free of charge so you can do the calculation with real numbers. The prices are public.
